1. History of development


Dehumidifier originated in Italy and are widely used in industry and commerce. Later, it spread from Italy to Japanese and Chinese Taiwan markets, and then from Japan and Taiwan to the North American market. At present, the North American market still dominates the demand for dehumidifiers.

2. Product type division


According to the type of dehumidifier, there are mainly household dehumidifiers and industrial and commercial dehumidifiers.


Industrial and commercial dehumidifiers are mainly used in manufacturing, medicine, hospitals, electronics, computers, food, growing and other industries. Adjust the humidity level according to requirements, and minimize the humidity in the air by reducing the water content in the air, thereby creating a good production and working environment to improve product quality and working conditions.


Household dehumidifiers are mainly used in homes and small & narrow space. Commonly used are bedrooms, living rooms, basements, wine cellars, storage rooms, villas, offices, etc. In the residential sector, the application of dehumidifiers helps to eliminate moisture in enclosed areas (such as basements and attics), mainly for comfort purposes and health reasons, and it helps prevent small spaces from being damp, odor, and moldy.


According to the working principle of dehumidifier, there are two main types.


Conventional compressor dehumidifiers with refrigerants, and rotary dehumidifiers with desiccant. The two dehumidifiers have different methods of collecting moisture, as described below. Better know the differences between them will help you make the better choice.


Refrigerant dehumidifier, its working principle is roughly the same as the household air conditioner in the home. The humid air in the room is sucked into the machine through a fan, and then the compressor, evaporator, and condenser are operated in turn, finally turning the air into high temperature and low pressure air. At the same time, condensed water is generated, and this cycle is repeated to make the indoor environment reach the set humidity requirement.


The refrigerant dehumidifier is most effective at typical room temperature, and its performance will drop sharply under colder conditions. The common cause of this is heat exchanging frosting, which can occur at any temperature below approximately 65°F/18°C. In general, if you choose to use a dehumidifier in a normal living area, then the refrigerant dehumidifier will be completely suitable.


Desiccant dehumidifier, differs from the refrigerant type above. Desiccant dehumidifiers absorb water from the air using a desiccant. In a dehumidifier desiccant works as follows, a wheel consisting largely of the desiccant turns slowly through the incoming air stream and absorbs moisture. During the rotation cycle a proportion of the wheel is passing through a stream of warm air which "reactivates" the desiccant by driving off the moisture.


The main reason for choosing a desiccant dehumidifier is that it can operate at a much lower temperature than the type of refrigerant, and can control the relative humidity below 35%. However, desiccant dehumidifiers are very power-consuming by default (usually consuming 600-800 watts of energy per hour) and the technology is still very unreliable.


3. Market status and prospects


At present, whether it is household dehumidifiers or industrial and commercial dehumidifiers, they are already relatively mature products in the market, and they are entering a peak period with relatively transparent product prices.


Conventional type dehumidifiers, especially household dehumidifiers, can only compete to cut prices in the face of fierce competition. Compared with the fierce price competition faced by household models with a history of 50 years, industrial and commercial dehumidifiers have shown a steady growth trend, and their role in industry and commerce has become more and more important.


At present, the future prospects of the global dehumidifier industry are unanimously optimistic. One is that with economic development and the improvement of people's quality of life, people have higher requirements for a better living environment. Another is that with the global warming, frequent extreme weather, such as typhoons, heavy rains, floods and other disasters, have a great impact on people's lives and working environment. We need to use this type of machines to help people get rid of it. The Dehumidifier market revenue was 3 Billion USD in 2019, and will reach 4.5 Billion USD in 2025, with a CAGR of 6.7% during 2020-2025.
